New Year's Yin

Start the year quietly and introspectively with this special "Meridian Yin" class.  This class will focus on the spleen and gall bladder meridians, which support the digestive system after the over-indulgence of the holiday season.  We'll also tap into the spirit's initiative and courage to support us in making and keeping our New Year's resolutions.  Yin Yoga is a methodical, quiet and purposely slow practice which focuses on lengthening poses in concert with a mindful breath to safely stretch the yin tissues - the tendons, ligaments and connective tissue - by holding reclined, prone or seated poses for up to 5 minutes each. Sometimes props such as tennis, golf or weighted balls are used to massage myofascia and muscles including the thighs, hamstrings, shoulders, and feet. This practice is ideal for balancing your more effort and force -focused yang activities, and it gently stimulates the flow of qi through the body. If you have a bolster, please bring it.  PLEASE NOTE:  We do not recommend Yin for pregnant students as the Relaxin hormone that naturally occurs in pregnant women (to prepare the body for birth) can allow students to stretch beyond their normal capacity.
